I just started listing some books - feebay is getting too pricey for a small-timer like me with small margins. Normally there I offer a shipping discount when someone wins multiple auctions.
Is it a standard practice here on eCrater to offer a shipping discount when someone buys more than one item?
If so, is there an automated way to do this or do I need to manually add it into each item description & then modify the invoice? Or does weight-based shipping work some magic on the shipping costs, adding them up for multiple buys?
Would it work with google checkout, which I haven't used before, or does a buyer just immediately get prompted to pay as soon as they purchase one item?

Yeah, setting up the Shipping Matrix is the only way to do it automatically.
And the customer can put as many items as they like in the cart before they pay, but they can't fill the cart, navigate away and come back because their cart will be gone. |

With Google it is easier to offer a shipping discount as you can make the adjustment before you charge them. On paypal I just do a refund for excess shipping paid.
The only multiple item purchases I've had on ecrater were by predesign or with regular buyers from eBay. |
