|
|
When I came to eCrater I used strictly GCO. With the rates now being exactly the same as PayPal's I now offer both. With equal fees I now actually prefer PayPal because of their shipping label feature. Problem is NOT ONE person has used PayPal since I started offering it & I'm not goinh to drop GCO because I understand it helps in search. I'm thinking of adding a statement in my listings.......something like this:
***eCrater pushes Google Checkout as the payment method. If YOU have a preference between GCO & PayPal, by all means, go with your preference. If you don't I ask that you use PayPal as that is MY preference.***.
Question 1: Would eCrater oppose this?
Question 2: Would potential buyers be turned off by a statement like this? |

GCO and PP are both the same rates now? Wow, didn't know that. Oh well that's OK I still want to offer both. Am in the process of trying to get set up with GCO now. |

I would reword it:
If YOU prefer PayPal over Google Checkout or Google Checkout over PayPal, by all means, go with your preference. If you don't I ask that you use PayPal as that is my preference.
or
My preferred method of payment is PayPal. However, if YOU prefer to use Google Checkout, by all means, go with your preference. Either one is acceptable. |

jigsaw-puzzle-palooza,
You can still use the PayPal shipping feature to print all of your Google Checkout orders.
Use this link: www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_ship-now (after the = there's a _ that does not show up because of the underline)
You will have to manually add the shipping address though. I use it all of the time for all of my Google Checkout orders. |

The only problem with a statement like that is that it still doesn't help the customers who think Google Checkout is their only option once they get to the checkout. The "alternative checkout" isn't particularly intuitive. |

IMO customers usually do not take the time to read much and will probably skip right over reading your payment preference. If you are totally against using google checkout and would prefer only to accept paypal then just delete google checkout from your payment options all together.
Personally, I use both because there are some people who are not going to be comfortable with Paypal and there are others who aren't comfortable with Google so at least it gives them an option and gives you a chance at more sales. |

I DO print my shipping labels with PayPal when I receive payment by GCO. Used to be a didn't mind manually filling everything in because GCO had lower rates. It was a trade off. Now paying the exact same rates there is no trade off anymore....thus I would prefer to be paid by PayPal. Like I already said......I won't DROP GCO because I understand having it helps in search. |

The thing that I recommend when using Paypal is be careful, because paypal has a reputation of freezing your account for any reason.

They both have a little different thing that are good to some. I like Paypal because I can print out my shipping weather or not they paid through them and I can print all the shipping rates(media, 1st class, parcel, priority) which is more then even the the USPS web site will do.
Google checkout is really simple and they automatically deposit you payments after a couple days(or is it 3-4 days). They probably will get set up with printable postage some day soon I bet and open up to more countries(maybe)

Please don't feel locked into PP for printing address labels.
check out http://www.usps.com/shippingassistant/ I use it for non-EBy
sales and just general mailing.
I kinda like it more because when you take it to the PO to ship
the PO has to scan it to get the postage ammt - this gets it into
the system for tracking/proof of mailing purposes.
The ONLY place that I use PP is eBay (thats all they allow)
everywhere else I use GCO.
Just my .02

They have only certain shipping methods available at USPS. You can't print media mail for example. So it might not work for every seller. |

This system doesn't let you pay for the postage unless you have a postage meter. You still have to take the package to the post office to purchase postage. |

It allows Media Mail (I've used it for Amazon Books) -
Allows 1st class Lg envelope up to 13 ozs. w/del reciept
It does everything that PP does except let you pay for the postage
online.
Like I said (my .02) it works for me - YMMV

Media Mail is not the same thing as First Class. (And if you are selling Hardcover Books or multiple items at once you can't use First Class.)
And last time I checked it wasn't in the USPS's list. |
