|
|
When I type the word "candle" or "candles" into the eCRATER search field, the result is a vast array of candle products yet none of them are mine. I notice that my categories (Home & Garden, Home Decor, Candles & Candle Holders) are no different than most other candle sellers, so I don't understand why my candle products aren't appearing when a basic search is performed. They DO appear under the category chosen...but they should also appear when a basic "candle" search is performed. I have "candle" in my product title and throughout the listing description.
To test it again, I re-listed a few candles and they still do not show up.
Advice appreciated! Thank you. |

Did you wait at least 2 hours before searching (as it says in the red note at the bottom of your Products in your admin?
Anytime you add listing or you edit they don't show in searches for 2 hours at least. |

I just did a search for one of your candles and it popped right up in a search on eCrater. You might want to remove the hyphen from your titles and elaborate a bit more in your titles. I noticed your Ceramic Tart Burner that's your title...add color or design (tulips) more keywords to give your items a better chance of being pulled up in a search. |

It might help to add some more descriptive words to the tart burner titles, since you have 3 different ones and they all have the same title-Ceramic Tart Burner. I can see that they are different from the photos, but I think that having the same identical title for more than one item can cause trouble. Can't remember now if it's an Ecrater rule or a Google rule...the no-no's and the do-nots have fried my brain! |

ACRead, I re-listed some the other day and still haven't seen them appear when I type the word "candle" or "candles". It seems that the only ones that want to appear are the ones that were originally listed...not edited or re-listed. Thus, they are several pages back where it does very little good.
frillypad, if I do a search for a specific candle (i.e. candy corn candle)...yes, it will appear. I'm talking about a basic search for "candle" or "candles". I truly would like to be among the others that show up.
Thanks for your respones.

wtcollectibles, thanks for the tip on the tart burners. I'll go fix that . . .
Now, I'd really like to get my candles to show up in the search.

eCrater search result is organized by relevance by default. And part of that is how many links lead to the product page. So older more established listings appear first and mostly the newer ones appear at the bottom. Did you look at all the search results.
If it is appearing in eCrater's category and it has been more than 2 hours it will be at the search results. Just make your products more relevant to see them closer to the top.
When i do a full title search your product is there http://www.ecrater.com/search.php?keywords=+Texas+Rose+-+Highly+Scented+Travel+Tin+Soy+Candle
Which means you didn't go far enough to locate it with "canle" search. |

re-listed?
Item NEVER die
so there is no reason to relist. All that is doing is breaking links to the original item and putting the new one at the top in a date order search. Searches are not in date order any more they are in relevant order so a search like candle that is so generic you can easily be lost forever. Breaking the links is really a waste of time. |

AC and BT have hit the nail on the head -- the default search sorting is by "relevance". I just did a search for "candle", changed the filter to "Date" and I see the third and fourth listings are yours.
By the way, the hyphens in your titles are fine, eCrater's search engine just ignores them (it sees a hyphen as a space). |

Thanks for the info! Well, I've learned that eCrater is not like the "other place" where, if you want your items to appear on the 1st page of the search results, you have to continually relist (for a fee, of course). Wow!...okay, so this surely saves me time and needless broken links.
So then, if the search results are not by date or relevance...what needs to be done in order to be on the first page of the eCRATER search results when you type in the word "candle" or "candles"?
Great info here!
Thanks again.

it is by relevance UNLESS you go to advance search and search by date or price.
YOU have no control of the relevance search - the search engine used decides which is the most relevant
List more and more and usually the relevance of your store allow to the search will help your placement --- BUT I have NO CLUE AT ALL how the ecrater.com search is programmed. I doubt anyone here does. |

As BigTall stated you have no control over this. The person looking enters a word in the search and automatically they come up in order of relevance (like it would happen in Google or any other search engine. And other searches. Every search will have it's own way of determining the relevance but mostly the more link lead to a page and more popular it is it appears at the top).
The only sort by option (after you do the search) at eCrater are date and price.
You can't alter where the new products show when they are new. You just need to build links to your new products make them relevant. Use lot's of keywords. and hope your efforts are better than the competition. |

WTF...you can't be serious, i made one post and one topic, the basic functions of the forum! One of each...they are not exactly the same anyway! This is unjust, I just needed some help, I am obviously new, and I thought this was what the forum was about, helping others! I did not post five of the same exact thing, but two similar things in two different forms!
You could at least give warnings, this is not a leisure forum, people have to live off of this! |
