Poops:
The feeds would be different for every one of the 17 pages. It would be similar but different. The reason being the RSS feed is not for the category but for the page only. Ecrater limits it to 20 and Google to 10 for ease of browsing, not to mention, saved bandwidth.
You can create your own RSS feed, but you'll have to host it elsewhere, no html on Ecrater (stomping foot bah! lol):
Quote: | 1. Create your own RSS feed with Feed4all, save it on your hard drive and name it ECRATER RSS or something so you recognize it.
http://feed4all.com/ (online)
http://www.feedforall.com/ (downloadable software, free trial period)
2. If you pick the online option, you won't have to host it, feed4all will host it for you. If you pick the software, you have to upload the RSS to the internet to get it "live". You can use your own server, if you have one, if not, you can create a page in Google Page Creator, just upload the file.
http://pages.google.com/-/about.html
Add all of your things in your ecrater store to your feed, submit to RSS directories, plaster that feed all over the internet! Here's a couple of good places to start:
http://www.rss-specifications.com/rss-submission.htm
http://www.submitrssfeed.com/Login.aspx?ReturnUrl=/StepOne.aspx
Here's also a bunch of cpanel free hosts, enough to room on most of them to host that one file, at least:
http://www.free-webhosts.com/free-cpanel-hosting.php
3. That will give you the URL to the feed, which you can then add to your blog, website, myspace, wherever. Here's a handy RSS button creator:
http://www.feedforall.com/public/rss-graphic-tool.htm
http://feedshark.brainbliss.com/
http://www.rss-specifications.com/rss-directory.htm
And here's a way to submit to your RSS feed to Google for indexing:
http://www.masternewmedia.org/Google_RSS_submission/RSS_submission_tools/submit_rss_feeds_to_Google_20050727.htm
Note that Google treats an RSS feed as 'news', and as such will only publish the 'headlines' - the first 2-3 listings. That's good, though, especially if you change the headline frequently - the more your "news" changes, the more often the bot will be back. |

"There was a problem with the Froogle bulk file so currently we took it off. We
already fixed the problem and uploaded the new bulk file today. So we are
just waiting for a Google approval."
Not sure this answered my questions but, okay? |

Here's something really weird. Go to Froogle, type in the search box "ecrater". The first listing is for an Ebay listing!
http://cgi.ebay.com/LIFTMASTER-opener-MOTOR-BELT-121_W0QQitemZ5984043278QQcmdZViewItem
Opened the listing, and he's smart - he is just using the words "ecrater" and "ioffer", they are not live links, so not sure if it violates Ebay link policy or not.
It sure isn't very nice of him!
Don't worry, lady, the listings will be back, sometimes Google drags their feet when updating their files.
I know my sales took a deep hit this week. Still plenty of traffic, shopping cart is working ok cuz I tested it. I think it was the stock market doing the funky chicken (sigh) |

That's reportable. I think it's safe to say that eBay does not want those words on their site. |

Quote: | I assume anyone posting their feeds would post them all in the same place but who's going to save more than the first one in their reader?
Creating one feed for every category I understand but I'm trying to understand the benefit of posting feeds for every single page in my store. What does it accomplish? |
The true value of an RSS feed is not really the hope that some buyer will subscribe to and read the feed. The true value lies in the hope that the search engine bots will read the feed. When they do, they will find a whole bunch of linkbacks to the feed owner's store/site, with descriptions (that include relevant keywords). The more of those you have, the better your chances of getting a higher search engine ranking.
The advantage of creating your OWN feed over just relying on any venue/auction house to submit it's feeds is you will then be able to post your RSS feed URL to your myspace, blog, etc. It's only YOUR things - and your things are what you really want to work at promoting. Ecrater does a great job of updating it's RSS feed and submitting it - but they are submitting thousands of goods that are NOT yours, so you are mixed up in the mix. Does that make sense?
If you make your own feed, you will only have ONE url to post to your blog, similarly, readers will just pick up on that one link, which will have all of your good listed. |

Thanks, that does make a bit more sense. I suspected it had more to do with search engines but I wanted somebody to spell it out for me. Appreciate the reply. |

De nada! It gets confusing hearing about the RSS feed and the bulk uplist feed. Sometimes it makes my head hurt lol |
