A buyer mistakenly made a purchase from our ecrater store and called on the phone to cancel it.
1) Can the buyer just cancel it himself?
2)If not, how do we cancel the order?
3) Does canceling the order (if successful) automatically refund the the buyer his payment?

Refund the payment in full. That effectively cancels the order. You may also want to reactivate the listing, if Inventory Control placed it on hold. |

From your question and looking at your store, I'm assuming your customer paid via PayPal. You'll need to go to PayPal to complete the refund. Once the refund completes, PayPal will send notice to eCrater of the refund. After eCrater receives the refund notice from PayPal, you'll see a check-mark in the column titled RF on your order page. If the order had been received via the marketplace you will not be charged the marketplace fee.
Some sellers have asked about deleting the order from their order list, but leaving it with the refund check is a quick reference if any question is ever raised regarding the order. |

As to buyers canceling orders themselves, yes they can if they haven't paid yet. they just don't bother paying. At least this guy let you know. Unlike some venues, you don't have to get 'official' cancelation or refund requests to do so. If the customer asks for it, you do it, unless you have already shipped. At that point you tell the customer it is on the way and they need to return it if they still don't want it. |

Thank you for the advise. Our first inclination was to just refund the PP payment to the buyer. But then I thought if we did make the refund would the "ecrater" system automatically refund the payment a second time. Certainly didn't want that!
All well not and the buyer who thought he was getting 3 foot x 8 foot sheets of roofing when the products are 3 inches x 8 inches is sad that he didn't get a great deal but happy he for his $55 back.
