Just wondering if Ecrater lets a seller use their personal DOT.COM address,on their sells site?? If they do,are there any bandwidth restrictions, and, can a seller post ads on their sales page?? I got a feeling that both questions are a NO,but,I thought that id still ask..
Thx for all replys |

Yes, you can have your own domain name and I believe it costs $5/month=$60 which you pay all at once. You don't get anything more than your store for that money.
Sheila, has a lot of templates written out and I believe she has one about this and it involves the security setting you using your domain name and if I try to explain it, I will make a mess of it.
There is no way that you can have ads on your pages. The ads that do show I believe helps finance eCRATER. It is a small team but they do have to eat and pay the mortgage/rent and I suppose Dimitar's boy should be around college-age by now as he had been born around the time Dimitar opened up the site. |

Doesn't look like the store is suspended though. Perhaps they changed their mind when they found that they couldn't do what they wanted to.
Hey Elperles, how are things down in PR. You guys having the same trouble we are up here with COVID-19? |

On one of my shops, I went to my domain, logged in and directed the link to my eCrater shop.
I didn't have to contact eCrater. |

Technically you are supposed to and pay the fee. One of the things that Sheila noticed is that if we are using our own domain name, the website address starts with Http: not the Https: so people who look for those things will think you don't have a secure site. I may have misinterpreted what she said, I don't think I have everything fixed yet. Still waiting for that personal assistant I need to get a lot of this stuff done for me as every day I get more behind. |

There are two different things being discussed. One way of using your domain name on eCrater is free and one is a paid service. To explain the difference, I'm going to use a store name of MyStore and assume you have registered a domain with the same name. Currently your home page would be https://mystore.ecrater.com and the item page would be https://mystore.ecrater.com/p/123456789/title-of-my-item.
If you go to your domain register and direct the link to your eCrater shop, there is no cost from eCrater. When a customer clicks on your domain name, they are taken to the home page of your store. As soon as they click on an item link they will see https://mystore.ecrater.com/p/123456789/title-of-my-item and when they go back to the home page they will see https://mystore.ecrater.com, not your domain name. If the customer saves a bookmark, it will be https://mystore.ecrater.com, not your domain name.
Now if you pay eCrater to use your domain name in your store, eCrater actually changes all your links in your store to your domain name. So if a customer uses your domain name, on the home page they will see http://mystore.com and clicking on the item they will see http://mystore.com/p/123456789/title-of-my-item. Only when they click on the shopping cart to checkout will they see a secure site. When the customer clicks on the shopping cart, the link reverts to the secure https://mystore.ecrater.com/cart.php which uses the eCrater version of the link instead of your domain name. In the past this didn't make any difference on the internet because pages that didn't receive date from the public didn't need to be secure. However, in the last year (maybe last 2 years) some of the internet browsers started giving very scary Alerts when every you clicked on any http link saying the page wasn't secure and suggesting you leave quickly. Your SSL certificate that may have been provided with your domain doesn't apply when you use the domain name on another site. The SSL certificates held by eCrater have not been extended to the paid domain stores. I don't know why, but I'm sure eCrater has a good reason. My guess is due to cost to eCrater, but that's just my personal guess.
Hope that helps explain the two forms of using a domain on eCrater. |
