Let me see if I understand you. I get a good domain name even if it doesn't have the store name in it and get a domain on something like GoDaddy, then set it up to automatically forward any clicks on that domain name to my eCrater store. Is that it? I'm still wondering about the ampersand (&) Will that be dropped by a search engine or picked up as is? I'm beginning to think I need a junior high geek type to advise me and set this up. Wink

YES that's it.

An ampersand (&) is not a character allowed in a domain name -
since your ecrater.com store name is a subdomain of ecrater.com I don't think it will allow you to use it.
It's not a recognized character for a URL

I have a hard time getting my mind around the computer way of doing things. I was born in an age when Radio was still in it's infancy and Television was only a dream. I never touched a computer till I was 74 years old.

OKAY:
I ran that Meta Tag/Description Analyzer that I found from one of the forums. I kept correcting until I just couldn't figure out what else I could add/change. ALL show green! Well I was happy. But are the numbers good? I just don't know exactly what I am looking at.

If an 'expert' eCrater could look at these and let me know, I would be grateful and find that helpful.

I entered the information at this website:
http://www.seocentro.com/tools/search-engines/metatag-analyzer.html

Here is a cut 'n paste of the analysis.

Title: Title contains no errors.
This tag contains 79 characters.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Title relevancy to page content is good.
The Title relevancy to page content is 75%.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Description: Description meta tag contains no errors.
This tag contains 140 characters.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Description meta tag relevancy to page content is very good.
The Description meta tag relevancy to page content is 84%.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Keywords: Keywords meta tag contains no errors.
This tag contains 16 keywords and 123 characters.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Keywords meta tag relevancy to page content is good.
The keywords meta tag relevancy to page content is 81%.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Robots: The Robots meta tag contains no errors.
This tag contains 12 characters.

HELL YES! THem are some damn impresses numbers.

REMEMBER every single time you add an item or sell an item it will have an effect on those numbers.
My suggestion is look at them monthly and adjust as needed.
BUT before you make any changes search your keywords in the search engines yourself. If you are happy with the don't make any changes no matter what the numbers say. Even rearranging the works can drop you from page 1 to page 10
so you just got to be careful.
Since I THINK you are new here I also suggest don't do anything to those tags for at least a month. Then check google and other search engines and see if and where you come up. Decide from there if you need to do anything.

HI!

I don't know much except what I learned on here about META tags...but I am pretty sure that it has to do with HTML in the coding. I think it is because we don't have HTML here. I could be wrong.

At the bottom of my message here, is what I know works. It is Google Attributes.

I know it takes time to enter it, but it is worth it. Once you get the hang of the basics of entering them, it is as easy as cut and paste (when appropriate) into the next entry despcription.

I printed a copy off of the email, because I refer to it everyday since getting the email, it is really helpful!

I hope this helps. I know you were looking for a quicker way, more instant, but I am not sure that is what is supported here.

ALSO: when you are finished, there is a great program to check your META tags... http://www.seocentro.com/tools/search-engines/metatag-analyzer.html
That program is great! It is really encouraging to see all of your work pay off!

ANOTHER thing another wise member told me: when you enter your attributes (like the ones below) in with your description pages, they will disappear on the 'good' copy of your store. IF they didn't disappear, then there was an error (typo, etc.) and that needs to be corrected.

I am new here also,
Best wishes with your new venture.
Tracy, The Frugal Shopper. Very Happy

Your missing one important one on that list of Google Attributes
it's [!product_type:cookbook!]

Do NOT confuse Google's attributes with META TAGS
they are not the same thing.

Hi:
I've just added my meta tags for title, description and key words . . . and I put my store thru the widexl.com analyzer and it says:

"Keyword relevancy to page content is poor. Sad
The keywords relevancy to page content is 45%."

Should I go through my product descriptions and choose the most commonly used words as my keywords??

So entrenched with so much new information .. . I'm getting a migrain!!!
Help!!

Thank you, anyone!!
Bag Lady Rolling Eyes

LOL Don't feel bad! I got the same rating hehehe. I am apparently meta-tag challenged! But I am sure I will figure it out eventually, since I never really did know what a meta tag even was until now!
Good Luck and keep trying!

Wow JC . . you did great!!!

Everytime you add a product or delete a product it will effect the %. 78% isn't bad

Desription tags and keywords tags - if I remember correctly are something like 250 characters that the search engines will look at. So if you have 58 and 77 you have alot more characters to use.

AH that means the words you are adding are not related to the items you are selling - in other words it looks at your titles and descriptions and don't find those words used anywhere else
