I am trying to shrink a picture to fit into a photo slot on a home page. I don't want to crop it but just shrink it to the size but can't seem to get it the right size. Keeps cutting off the top or bottom. Can anyone explain how to do it in nursery school terms? Thanks |

It would help if we knew what software you are using to try and shrink the picture. They all work just a little differently. |

That's a tough one because it's done a little different in different graphics programs. Here's the basics, with my camera when I take a picture it will measure Width: 2848 pixels
Height: 2136 pixels and be about 3.2 MB in size. I have my camera set to the max res. it will do. Now when I load the picture onto my PC and then use my graphics program, in my case Photo Elements I have the choice to save it for the web when choosing this option on the right side I can choose the size so say I want the width to be 640 I would type 640 for the width and have the keep aspect ratio checked. This will then make the photo 640x480 but no cropping took place just the picture size is smaller.
I also use GIMP and in it they call it scaling the image.
Hopefully this will get you going in the right direction. |

I sort of got it acceptable. I thought the space was less square than it is so was trying to get a rectangle in a square space. |
