When you go to an item and you click "contact seller" a window pops up and you fill out the form with your question and email, why at the bottom does it say "Are you human?" by the box where I think you type the code in??? |

That is on many many sites now. It has to do with spam prevention I think. Ecrater's is easy to read and copy. Some are so distorted it can take me 2-3 attempts to get one right. |

I completely understand the code, I know that is pretty common to have to enter a code........ What I don't understand is, Why does it say "Are you human?" Please check anybody's site and click on ask seller a question and you will see that? I just think that is strange? And I am curious why? |

There are two options: a human can read the page and use it or a bot (a program) could use the page. The bots are used for sending spam (or obtaining email address). I think they probably use a link that leads to a message or an email (don't know details). So to prevent the bots, that page has an image with a piece of writing on it that cannot be taken as a writing by a program. So the bots never complete the last step and hence get eliminated. Spam never gets sent. Since people can easily read stuff regardless of the way it looks, they can enter the info and activate the system.
So with that bit of info you prove you are human. |

Ok, I get the question now... Usually sites just say "Enter code" The question "Are you human" just seemed like a strange way to ask to enter the code? I wish it did say "Please enter code"
Oh well... Thank you for responding! |

Ecrater is more human than most sites. Maybe that is why? Just a bit tongue in cheek. |

it is a wierd way to say it... but they just want to make sure a "live body" is sending the message rather than some spamming computer program.
There are programs that search out forms & fills them in with spam.
On one of my websites I used to get Viagra ads on my "Quote/Order form"
Now since I changed the form coding, they just come thru blank. |

Just what I thought. A bit taken aback at first and then I was grinning. |
