I was just thinking about how eCrater seems too good to be true. It's free, you folks all seem so friendly, and it's so easy to load items (compared to eBay). So now I'm getting paranoid! Sad

Okay, don't think me ridiculous, but what if eBay attempts a hostile takeover of eCrater? I know I could be very naive in this regard, but do you think it's possible? Any thoughts on this? Question

Here's an excerpt from the web:

"occurs when a company attempts to buy out another whether they like it or not. A hostile takeover can occur only through publicly traded shares, as it requires the acquirer to bypass the board of directors and purchase the shares from other sources. This is difficult unless the shares of the target company are widely available and easily purchased (ie, they have high liquidity). A hostile takeover may presage a corporate raid."

I have though about this very thing also.
Im surprised FeeBay, Yahoo, or someone else hasn't bought out ecrater by now
I do have a feeling that as it continues to grow it will get more notice from the big guys.
Let just keep our fingers crossed and pray that everything stays as is.

But as they say, nothing lasts forever, and the only thing constant is Change

ecrater.com is NOT a publicly traded company. It is solely owned. A hostile takeover is not possible.

Hello!

I have been lurking for a few weeks, but I thought I would join the crowd and answer this. I think ecrater is a privately held company. No one can be forced to sell their own company.

A hostile take over can only happen when a company is a public one, owned by its stockholders. The company trying to take over does so by buying enough shares of the stock. There are no shares of stock in a privately owned company.

My comment was made not on a idea of "Hostile Takeover" but just an outright change in ownership.
eCrater cant be "Taken Over" however it very well can be sold to someone else.

This happens all over the web... some for the good & some for the bad.
Did you know ebay owns 75% of Craigslist?
Office depot has owned Viking office supplies for years...They just decided to combine them recently. (most customers were NOT happy)
Many many companies get bought out by a "bigger fish". Can't be helped...

Hello All,

First, as a founder, I can say that I do not have plans to sell eCRATER. So far we have received two offers which I rejected. Second, our company is too small to be consided as a threat from big corporations as eBAY and Amazon.

Thank you for commenting on this. Please know it was not my intention to stir the pot. Just expressing my concern (and paranoia). Sad You have a great thing going here and a real sense of community, and what a shame it would be to see that change. Of course I speak for the obvious selfish reasons too! Very Happy
