Wow I am completely confused now! My personal page has my store name as the ID, when posting the display is my real name. My fan page has the long url rather than my store name! I have 21 fans so I guess I'm not too far away from the 25 I need. Maybe I should change my personal page back to my name so I can have my fan page using my store name!
Hummm I feel like I'm talking like Dr. Seuss... Sam I Am
Here is my fan page again! http://tiny.cc/GoneFunky |

Thanks Moonwishes - Do you know if the vanity urls pop up the long name for seo and when you click on the url? I have a name in mind but don't want to miss out on any potential keyword association by shortening too much. |

Okay...I have over 25 fans for my Page- Again when I signed up, I had no idea what I was doing- still don't for the most part! My log in and user name is the name of my website, which I "thought" would be what was displayed that's why I chose to use my website name. Now that I can change my Fan page, it is showing the name is taken...of course it is- it's taken by me. When I search for Gone Funky my fan page is what comes up, not my profile page. Am I missing something? I tried the link above to change the URL, but since I'm already using it on my profile page it doesn't do anything it just sets there! I even tried changing the name to Gone-Funky and it shows that's taken. NOT!!
Any thoughts? |

The problem Frilly is you are not allowed to change a vanity name after you have set it up. I saw that in the fine print when I was doing mine the other day. Your current url for your page is long http://www.facebook.com/pages/Oklahoma-City-OK/Gone-Funky/152923178053140?v=wall&ref=sgm
You might want to try the link I had up before and do GoneFunky without spaces and see if that works for your fan page?? I don't know where your actual fan page is or if that is what I clicked on from the tinyurl. I'm not to bright about all this either.
I think I read somewhere that whether you use the long or the vanity url doesn't matter as someone who bookmarked you prior to your vanity url will be redirected to the new url. I never even think about my url names for SEO I think it is more important to get the url to be something that human beings can remember and relate to and that it is recognizable for your business. If that makes sense. |

When you are posting on FB you can press shift 2 and it creates @ then start typing your Page name and you will see a little box below- you can click on that and it will be inserted rather than your stringy url! It will at that time look like Gone Funky rather than, http://facebook/okc/funkyboogers/1231rytyey blah blah blah you get it. |

Great information frillypad! I'll use this in setting up my shortlink when the time comes. By the way, I was wondering if reposting the same content to your business page made any sense? On Twitter, it's like some continuous feed but with Facebook it's more of a forum type setup--if that makes any sense. Right now I have the two tied after I finally discovered how NOT to post everything straight back to the personal FB page. So it goes from SO to Twitter and finally my biz page. I'm convinced that most of the hits coming from Twitter start by Spider but then become actual interested parties later on, so I want to keep reposting to Twitter--assuming that isn't some sort of spamming posting the same content over again--and possibly FB biz too. Do you do much reposting and does it seem to help? |

Since my personal stuff doesn't seem to post to my business page, that is where I post most things social but then I go to my business page to post store stuff and business type links and it then posts them also to my personal page and then to wherever else it goes.
Still not sure about it all, but some of it is just pure fun. Today I had a chance to tell an author whose book goes on sale tomorrow, how much I enjoyed the advanced reading copy I had. At her website I noticed she had a FB page so I posted the invite there to others to see my blog post, and if they go to my blog they will see links to my ecrater bookstore plus Amazon affliate links. Just checked those links and found someone has bought a book through my bookblog which has only been up for a couple of months. I just find it fascinating how you can follow threads all over the internet! And make a few cents too. |

Ty birdsongbooks for answering me. I appreciate it. I don't understand how 2 different links can go to the same page, but both work for me too. I tried to get the vanity url and messed up. My personal page has the url address that I wanted for the business.
A couple of people I fanned were from Australia so I thought maybe that was why the link didn't work. Then people started sending me messages that they couldn't fan me back and were asking me to revise my links on their link love pages. Maybe its a facebook glitch. I give up lol.
Have a happy and safe Labor Day weekend everyone. |

I was going to start a thread called "Facebook for Idiots" (way beyond Dummies!) but I knew the mods would lock it and send me over here. So if anybody has the patience to get me to the beginning, I'd appreciate it!
I finally went to sign up at FB, and entered my name, email, birthday, etc., and then read a message that said something like You are about to set up a personal account. If you want to set up for a business, create a page first. Create a page before I even enter my name or anything? Good grief, I can't even get past the sign up page, so depressing.
I'll be back later to see if anybody replies...my head aches at the moment from this 22-page thread--you'd think I would know something, wouldn't you? |
