No longer contributing to Facebook. It does not prove as useful as other promotional methods, so now I only use facebook to communicate with a few sellers I am already friends with.

It is a shame that most of the shops that began listing their Fb page here did not keep up with it. I remember how excited I was to have a separate page just for my business. Everyone was learning how to create the page from each other.

This thread can't be edited unless a moderator does it. I don't think there are any active moderators around much any more.

thank you to all of the shops that are keeping their page current.

Facebook bought out the last of the free search engines. Thefind.com and those bastards closed it down in place of their own PAID comparision service. Basically they took out the competition. Ebaywannabe, opps, i ment to say facebook.

When facebook promoted their online store service large retailers jumped onto the wagon, only to find out the wagon had 4 wheels missing. They left because they were getting no sales whatsover. They called Facebook a bar where people just hung out at a bar and didnt spend any money.

Effective immediately nothings for free anymore.

Here are some articles showing trying to sell on Facebook is a waste of time.

We think that it just opens up problems for sellers by having a Facebook Store.

1. It creates more work for the seller.
a. instead of worrying about 1 site now your worried about 2.
b. there's already an established way to communite with a seller. Now buyers are going to start leaving messages on 2 different email systems to say the same thing repeatedly.
c. sellers are asking for trouble in case of negative remarks left on their facebook account, that get crawled over to Google search results.

2. Its proven and there are numerous articles that Facebook is not a marketplace, its a chatroom or a communications platform. When people want to by something they go to eBay, they go to walmart etc. When people want to talk to others some use Facebook, Twitter etc.

3. Facebook now charges to have a seller's items posted on there system. Recently Facebook bought out TheFind.com the last of the free comparision sites. Instead of Facebook building up TheFind, they merely destroyed it for the sole purpose of getting rid of the competition. Facebook replaced TheFind.com with their own PAID comparision search results.
a. Your paying 5% to this guy for advertising, now you have to pay 5% to that guy for advertising you have to folk over 5% for payment processing, when the whole time its you the seller who spends hours trying to make money, when everyone has their hands out asking you for money, some people's profits are only 20 to 30% and now someone comes along that doesnt promise anything and wants 1/2 of your profits with no proof? questionable.

4. Marketplaces, Companies that supply ecommerce solutions, focus on just that Ecommerce, selling services that help you sell your items online. Thats their core business thats all they do. Facebook is a social site, its nothing more than AOL back in 1995, where you had 5 MB to build a online site, posted a couple pictures and went into AOL chatrooms. Facebook is just captializing on 30 year old technology.

Facebook just decided oh we want more money, lets just jump into the eCommerce business. Oh we have competition, lets buy them out and knock them out of the picture. How Facebook made its money, when they dont produce anything or offer a service, they made their money by selling your information, your geographics, anything people placed on their servers. Took your private information and sold it companies. Kind of link what Google does.

Funny how we just said that, the notion of Facebook trying to be the next Google just popped into mind. Especially when we just mentioned how Facebook bought TheFind.com to get into comparision shopping and Google already has it. Whats next, Facebook 3d glasses, or Facebook TV? Oh boy! If it wasnt for that marketing company screwing up Myspace.com Facebook wouldnt be in existance. After AOL, Myspace would of been today's facebook if that marketing company didnt screw up Myspace.

But all in all, you the seller have to make your own deceisions, weigh the development time vs. the output being how much you make in sales. Is it worth it? or Not. By asking other sellers who do it, or not do it, is the only true answer for you to make that decision.

Good luck to you all!

I don't use FB as a store. I use it to promote my store. There is a difference. A store on the internet is hard to find. Fb for ne has been goodl for promoting my brand name, LaStade Designs. They have a new feature. It is a SHOP NOW button which you may program to go to your ECRATERstore.
