of having a Sock Monkey theme Christmas Tree this year.

Wouldn't that be cool?

Although, no one will be around to see it but me ... but does that matter?

How long to play dough type ornaments last? If I made some now would they be good in December?

Anyone have instructions for making different types (yarn, clay, play dough etc) of sock moneys to decorate a tree with?

I have a normal size sock monkey that I can put on the top of the tree. Throught about getting more to have "jumping" off the tree.

or maybe not ... LOL

Are you talking about mini sock monkeys or a gargantuan tree?

I have dough cookies that I've had since the early 80s. If you pack them away carefully so they don't break, if they are made well, they last a very long time.

PS: I didn't make mine. I bought them at craft fairs.

Here's a dough recipe

I have dough ornaments that my after school kids made 15 years ago.

My first Christmas in my own apartment I hadn't planned on having a tree. I was working full time and going to graduate school full time. Xmas trees were the farthest thing from my mind.

Then when a colleague gave notice because her husband was transferred, I invited her to stay with me while she worked out her notice. She insisted we have a tree even though neither of us were going to be in my apartment over the holidays. We got the tree but had no decorations so we made them from paper mache and colored paper chains.

Neither of us were artists either but the decorations looked great. Had that Mexican pinata look. I found a hot pink straw angel to top the tree and enjoyed the decorations for quite some time.

I used to have my nieces and nephews over for a craft session before Christmas. One year we made cinnamon ornaments. I bought a huge package of cinnamon at Costco and, working in batches, added just enough applesause to make a workable dough. We baked the shapes in a low oven (can't remember the details, but they were hard) and then painted them. Some have broken over the years, but I still have quite a few! And unlike Gingerbread, they don't attract moths (yeah, we learned the hard way!) They've lasted a very long time!

You could make good smelling sock monkeys Smile
