they default to jpeg when I try and save them
what have you got in your "save file type" box when you try and save them?
maybe that needs changing?

are you trying to save them all?
or just some?
dont you already have them on your pc?
are you using a different browser?
do you right click and save as?

you could save it as a bitmap and the open it in an editor and then save it as a gif you may lose the quality though
dont know an awful lot about it myself though just trying to help
maybe someone will come along soon with the exact answer

I see this occasionally when trying to save images from websites but I have no idea what it means.

May be a silly question, but have you tried rebooting or closing the browser and reopening?

I would check your settings for what file types are associated with whatever program you use for your photo editing.... usually under options. We all know that things can change on these darn things when we're not looking, lol ~ and something has obviously changed your file assoc for graphics...maybe something you saved off the net.

If you have no other choices in the you save as dropdown, then I'd do as LJ suggests and save it as a bmp then re-save it as a gif... I don't think you'd lose as much quality as with jpg, and bmps take up huge amounts of space, which is why many sites don't like them.

Let us know how you made out ~ Cher

Or try to COPY the image instead of saving it then paste it right into your photo program - I've done this using irfanview and it works perfectly Wink

I also tried to save a few random images from your store to see if they came up as bitmap and they didn't so maybe it is a setting on your end Question

I use irfanview too, and you can usually save any image as anything as long as it's associated with those file extensions.

I really don't know but I'm sort of inclined to think that it's a Windows issue -- maybe something a reboot would take care of? I only say that because I see it myself on different websites but I never know why for sure and it seems to happen randomly. And if it's only happening on eCrater then I don't know what local setting could possibly be causing it.

henhousegiftsandcollectib,
I just had the same problem you did with files only saving as .bmp.
Last Monday I got an eCommerce web site and I wanted to have all of my photos hosted at my new site. Unfortunately, some of the photos on eCrater were not available anywhere else (my fault). When I go to any photo of mine on eCrater and do a right click save picture as it only offers .bmp. I checked other photos of mine on Amazon, Yahoo Auctions, etc. and I can save them as .jpg. All the photos on eCrater are in .jpg format, so this is very confusing. But, I found a way around the problem. At least this is what works on my computer.
I pull up any item in my eCrater store and then click on the photo to enlarge it.
I right click on photo, but instead of save picture as I select email picture.
I then click on save original size.
At this point an email window will appear. I go to the top left corner, and under file, I select save attachment. It then lets me save the file as a .jpg.
After that I simply close the email window.
This is a bit more time consuming than simply save picture as with a right click of the mouse, but a huge time saver compared to pulling inventory and takings new pictures.

teelabooks - wouldn't it be a lot less work to just copy the image into your photo program or paint and save it there?

I'm not sure what you mean.
I can only save the image as a .bmp and I don't believe Paint will convert a .bmp to jpg. A couple of days ago I experimented with a conversion program, but I didn't like the results.
I don't use any type of photo program, but I don't think it would help much as my problem is not being able to download the picture in .jpg format.

Agree, Poopsheet, think it's probably a Windows issue. If you delete your cookies, history and temp files (up on the IE browser window, Tools, Internet Options), and reboot, that should resolve the issue, hopefully.

DO NOT SAVE IT - right click your mouse and COPY it. Paste it in paint and save it as a jpg
