This is the thread explaining Google ads:

http://community.ecrater.com/viewtopic.php?t=16812

In the ads I looked at, your photos are too small. They need to be uploaded at least 250 px on the longest side and the biggest one I saw was 240. I have never heard about Google checkout triggering them--that would be new and more people would be hollering, I suspect!

that's any side must be AT LeAST 250 to avoid ads.

google checkout has nothing to do with ecrater placing the ads on your listings. They would be there even if you didn't accepot google checkout.

The link posted in the above post has all the info

Thanks for clarifying; I was trying to say it right but missed!

Someone once posted that the photos had to be at least 250 on EVERY side and that is not true and I was trying to avoid saying it that way. I have one that's 300 x 224 and there are no ads.

If you do not accept any type of electronic payment, you will have Google ads. On this site, the only electronic payments acceptable is Google checkout or Paypal. THEREFORE, if you don't sign up for Paypal OR Google checkout, you'll have ads.
If you offer either service, you won't have ads for that reason.

In other words, if you accept Google checkout or Paypal or both AND you still have ads showing on your items, then look at the other reasons in the list. There is a list of reasons that could cause Google ads.

This is not related to Google checkout. The statement you are referring to means that IF you do not offer either PayPal or Google checkout, you will have the ads. There are still many sellers who will not offer any electronic payment methods, only checks and money orders. They will have Google ads. It doesn't apply to you.

As mentioned before, you most likely have ads because your photos are too small by a few pixels. Try uploading a larger photo on one and see if the ads go away. If you still have ads with larger photos, the next place to check is to make sure that you have used a global subcategory under the main global category if one is available to you. But since the photos are too small, try that first.

I just checked this item:
http://baystatejem.ecrater.com/p/2712246/playstation-the-lost-world-1997-dreamworks#
The photo zoomed to 150 px by 150 px. Either height or length MUST be at least 250px or you will have google ads on this item.

In case you still don't believe us, check this item:

The photo is 300 x 300 and there are no ads.

Until your photos are regulation size you will have Google ads. No way to opt out of them.

Your pages actually belong to Ecrater. Ecrater allows you to use the website completely free of charge, and the owner recovers some of the expenses by allowing those google ads. Ecrater DOES give you the option of not having those ads in your store, and the method of opting out is to have the correct sized pictures as well as a few other rules you have to follow. Those ads were showing up on a few of my pages at one time also, and I got rid of them by enlarging the photos.

I actually agree with you. Just my one person's opinion, but I think it should be in the Ecrater terms, which everyone is expected to have read when they signed up. There must be many hundreds (thousands?) of store owners who never come to post on this forum, which is the only place I've ever seen it explained.

Rusty is probably right, since running a free site can't be done for free, so any income is welcomed. Just seems like store owners should know about it up front, so they can know what to do when it happens. Source of income or not, sending prospective buyers away to other sites does not seem very friendly.

I suppose wtcollectibles has one way of looking at it but....

Look at listings that have the too small photos. Would you buy something with a photo so small you can't tell what it is? This makes the site look amateurish and stupid.

Ecrater has two ways of getting people to take the time to create great listings.
1. Suspend the store if it is doing something illegal
2. Put Google ads on poor listings to encourage you to shape up.

As for people who put their items up on ecrater and then don't ever check them: shame on them. If they don't care about their store, why should ecrater.

Sloppy stores and listings (not just at ecrater) may be one reason Google keeps changing the rules.
