|

I purchased a set of heavy ceramic mugs, nonagonal shaped white. I cannot figure out them manufacturer. There is a stamp on the bottom but the glaze is so thick I can only make out "HL" They look contemporary, not older. I can send a photo if you think you could help me with it.
Thanks! |

Without a photo I'd guess Homer Laughlin. Some of his designs look very today but are quite retro. He is quite collectible.
You can post a photo in your topic on the forum of the mug and the mark. |

Thanks for your help once again. I looked up Homer Laughlin. Didn't he design Fiestaware? I couldn't find anything resembling this, but maybe it is by him.
Not sure if I can post this, but I'm trying.

Paste what's between the [img] tabs into your browser. When I did that, I could see the 2 photos just fine. Unfortunately, I know nothing about mugs so I can't help! |

That's because it was posted as if it was an image and it's actually a URL
I fixed it so it's clickable
Don't think the unclear images are going to help thought. |

It's probably not Homer Laughlin based on what I can see in Homer Laughlin China, Guide to Shapes and Patterns by Jo Cunningham and Darlene Nossaman. The cups don't match the orginal advertising published in the book. The octagonal shapes match, but the cups are not as squat as what you have. (If it were, it would be Dover Colonial White).
This particular pattern/shape was made by Homer Laughlin in the 1970s.
Unfortunately most of my reference books are older and don't cover much of the 1970s. I would feel comfortable calling it a 1970s shape.
You might also try the folks at the eBay Glass and Pottery board. They may be able to identify it. You might want to take of rubbing of the mark on the bottom to see if you can read it better.
By the way, it's Homer Laughlin Co. Yes the company did/does produce Fiestaware. Homer is one of the founders back in the 1890s or so. |

The images to Replacements.com. Didn't want to take advantage of their services as I'm sure they want paying customers. Will post here when I find out what brand the mystery mugs are!!
Thanks,
