I have been processing transactions through Google Checkout since November, 2007. I received the following email this morning, and was wondering why I would get something like this now, since I have received payments through GC even this week?? I did Not click on the links, although they look legitimate. What does everyone think? Please let me know if this is legitimate?

"During a review of your account, we've found that you appear to be
processing transactions through Google Checkout but haven't listed a
Public Business URL in your merchant account.

You are required to enter a public business URL if you use Google Checkout
or Buy Now buttons to process orders. To avoid having your account
suspended, please update your public business URL as soon as possible.

To add your public business website URL:

1. Sign in to Google Checkout at https:edited out
2. Click the 'Settings' tab.
3. Enter your URL in the 'Public business website' field.
4. Click 'Save profile.'

Please reply to this email after you've updated your public business URL.
Please visit
http:edited out for
more information about Google Checkout policies.

Do feel free to reply to this email if you have any additional questions.
Sincerely,

Safiuddin
The Google Checkout Team

---

No processing fees through January 31, 2008 when you use Google Checkout.
http-edited it out"

This message is obviously a FAKE. DO NOT click on the connections. They are trying to gain info. I get this kind of thing for PayPal. They claim there is something wrong. They make you worry and act rash. There is always an ugrency in the message like "we'll suspend your accout". That is a dead giveaway. When I check my account there is no problem at all. If there was they will post it in your account. As donnadee says, DON'T use the email. Go directly to your account on a different tab on your browser or a separate copy of the browser page and check to see.

Ok, thanks for everyone's help! I thought it must be a fake, and thought I should post it to warn others!

I think I will go back in and edit out those links in my post above, just so no ecrater seller clicks on anything here in the discussion thread by accident.

Have a great day!

Without the header of the email - can't tell if it's a fake or not

BUT this is true

and if you don't have it that's why you got the email.

I received the same thing actually - a couple of days ago.
I NEVER EVER click a link in an email
so I went to Google Checkout directly and added in the info requested.

I agree, I wouldn't click on any email link but go directly to the site.

What's strange to me is this appears to be optional so why would someone(Google?) want you to fill in the field if this is the same area you are talking about?

It seems to me that it's optional but only until you start getting paymetns.
On every Google Checkout account I have I have sooner or later received that email. So as I said never clicking a link in an email I go to Google Checkout log it and add it - then I don't get the emails any more, lol.

It makes sense that you would want to display your website URL. It's just seemed odd to me that Google would wait till after you received a payment to require it but then again it's Google and they have never been exactly straight forward.
