I logged in this am and on the Ecrater page there was a black banner with "Please don't censor the web" on it just under the sign in area.

What does that mean? I am too afraid to click on it.

Thanks

Here is eCrater's explanation.

Google has done something similar.

We all need to continue to contact our representatives about this. From my understanding the way it is worded now, it is like craigslist, someone complains and the whole website is shutdown. So any jerk could complain and ecrater would be gone.

We need to let our representatives know that we do not want this ludicrous bill passed in any shape form or fashion. Some of them are just saying they don't agree with it the way it is currently worded. We need to keep calling them and emailing them that it is Nay, Nay, Nay all the way, no matter how they reword it.

The president says he will veto it. He's the first truly connected president we've had. Don't think he wants to return to the old ways any more than we do.

I'm going to disagree with the concept of not changing the wording.

I live in an area that is directly affected by the thieves who load/download/pass around/ignore copyrights. There does indeed need to be an on-line method to enforce copyrights world wide.

If you sell knock off goods at a flea market, the true manufacturers can come in with state officials and seize your counterfeit goods and destroy them on the spot. Why should dealing on-line be treated any differently?

Tyree that is what I thought this would do when I first heard about it, except as it written is it could be applied in a much broader way to literally make it impossible to quote someone on the internet without getting permission first.

If it were just to crack down on pirated music/film or counterfeit handbags, that is one thing, but it wouldn't just close down Johns Fake Bags who sells on eCRATER and Bonanza and eBay, it would take down the whole selling platform.

That's why I feel it should be rewritten, that the effort does have some merit.
