https://www.pinterest.com/silktraveler/

I have personal interest boards on which I randomly add a product from my ecrater stores. I generally do the random pins with products related to the interest board. ie: a pin of a travel/weekender/cosmetic bag or travel size bath and beauty on my Travel boards; lunch tote on food/Weight Watcher boards, etc.
I made two boards for brands I sell: Crabtree Evelyn and MyVera [Vera Bradley].

I've had to drastically reduce the time spent on Pinterest since January and have really seen a difference. Pinning 'anything' gets more exposure and feeds out there. And time not spent at least looking up and pinning a few things from new followers, or just following back had impact. Added and lost up to 25-30 a week compared to solid add only numbers before. HowEVER, have done fair amount of blocking pinners as the number of [porn, blatant ad, totally unrelated board-to-pins] spammers seems to have greatly increased.
I can picture Pinterest not being the marketing advantage near as much in the next year, or requiring more of one's time than willing to devote for results. IMHO

I wonder why you would be so inundated with those sorts of posters. I haven't run into them at Pinterest. I do know that I have received more sales via Pinterest this year than any other source except for the marketplace.

In my opinion, Pinterest is a fun place to visit and spend some time, especially when stressed it can be relaxing. I pin my goods for sale in a routine manner, but my 'private' pins, I do as I visit Pinterest or other websites that are showing something that I want to pin. You can be very efficient about it if needed. But then Pinterest was an answer to something I had wanted for a long time and that was a way to track ideas without having to put them in a folder on my computer where I promptly forgot where I put them. Now I can find them easily.

...not inundated, just an uptick. The thing about spam on Pinterest is that many users don't even see it. Often it's not until you click Visit or go into the pin content (i.e.: pull up the recipe itself in a recipe pin) that you find its spam/junk. A pretty pic pin that clicks to the uber spam "superpinportal" instead of a source, a bloated 6 pic frame pin of recipe that instead clicks into another 6-8 frames of spam ads before, or even if, it takes you to any actual recipe.
And you know, some pinners just don't care as long as they rack up legions of followers. I decided quality of pins and content was a priority. im not giving up, just being more selective with what I pin.

Anyway, don't want veer too off topic here. There could be whole thread on marketing for us, as it relates to Pinterest.

Does anyone have a Pinterest pinning preference? I have been using the main ecrater posting link but those have become a bit...odd. Everything is loaded with plus signs now (is this supposed to be seo friendly? Any advantage?). I've noticed the change for at least a month now. I'm not sure it's for the better (and yes, I know you can edit it however you want, but there has to be some reason for this format, right?), but I am seeing a lot of ebay pins in google search, and none of them have this format. I'd like to know is this format coming directly from ecrater, and if so why this particular format? Would it be better to pin from the main pinterest button and not through the ecrater pin button? Enquiring minds.

Also, how do you send a request to join a board? Following didn't cut it. It must be something so simple but I'm just not seeing it! Help

I just tested pinning from my listing page and it worked fine. I also use the Pin button you can install on the chrome bar at the top of the page.

Those plus signs can be edited. Click in the box where they are and it will highlight the info in the box. Then click again to get your curser in that box, you can remove the plus signs and keep the title or you can add different info in there. In my opinion, I think the plus signs look terrible. The buyer that views the text area needs to read something that will entice them to click to your listing. I changed my last text of a knitting pattern to say "Gift idea for Teacher." The person is looking at the picture first then looking at the text which should promote the item in a way to draw the buyer to click it.

I think it is a Pinterest thing, not Ecrater.

To request to join a board, message one of the people that are the pinners. They will send you an invite if they think you will be a good fit to that board.
I belong to several group boards and I always check the Ecrater store to make sure they have all their areas filled out and have good feedback before I send an invite. https://www.pinterest.com/lastade/

This will sound stupid, but what the hey. How do you directly message someone? Maybe it's my Firefox acting funky, but when I try, it says "keep going" but there is no send button. There are links to find friends at Facebook and Yahoo, but no send? And where is the "Add Me" function people are referring to?

I actually find Pinterest more daunting than most social media due to the deceptively simple design. But I'm one of those people who likes everything up front not hidden--jumbled though it may look to others.

DC, if you want to message someone on Pinterest or share a pin with them, on each pin if you hover your mouse over the top middle you will see a paper airplane looking design that says SEND. Click on that. add the person's name or click on their email address, then a box will pop up with add your message. I just sent you a pin of some vintage linens of Maggie's I believe with a message. Hope that is clearer than mud.

Generally I only send messages to my DIL if I find something that I think would interest her, Lastade any neat crochet items and Cosmic if I find things Lego connected like once a Lego quilt. Generally things like collectibles like you sell don't appear for me which is why I sent you linen. Very Happy I don't know what most people sell off hand to send them interesting things for their pin site or of personal interest to them.

@Moon - Is this on the actual pin or can you do this from the board headers? I'm not seeing the airplane, just an icon that looks like two heads (or one lego piece) in the top right corner. For example, right now I'm trying to be added to Artists Union's pin-free market, and there is no "add me" but there is a "+" icon up in the top right (I don't think that's what is being inferred by the instructions though).

When I go to link you shared, and then click on one of the boards, if I put my curser near the top of a picture, a pin it button, a send button and heart all show up near the top of the picture.

Ok, they are on my side now too. Must have been a temporary glitch. Let's see if I can get that "send" to work. However, I still don't see the "add me" button (or option).

Update: What do you do once you click on the "paper airplane (aka send) button"? The only option I see is the email and find people you know. This is where I lose it.

I also think that it's not an easy way to join some board on Pinterest- sending an e-mail (as some people ask in their instructions) or message them - I don't feel so comfortable to do it, so in my Open Boards I thought to add something more simple: I've made special "Add Me Button" pins and if somebody would like to join, She/He can write there in the comment, even just a + sign (more convenient, no need for extra asking and first of all I can check it everyday).

DC Collectibles, I've just found You on Pinterest and sent invitations, welcome:)
I wish more eCrater's members could pin their items, so we have better presentation there.

I've noticed this as well and I hope that it can be changed soon - it doesn't look nice. I don't know, who chooses this format: Pinterest or eCRATER...
And deleting these signs for many items is a lot of work to do (I was doing it at first, but I stopped for now).

DC I think most of the add me type stuff is actually the board owner sending invites. I don't know how to ask to be part of a board unless I know the person and can ask them. In general I don't like sharing boards. I had one and no matter how I phrased the rules on a board calling something like 'customer sewing projects' anything and everything was being posted on it including a hamburger one day which I had no clue why someone would have posted that. I even had people posting my pins onto this board which was mine as well and since they hadn't made the garment they were pinning, I deleted it. I found I was spending a lot of time deleting nonsense and one day finally gave up. I know accidents happen and you can mistakenly pin something to the wrong boards but 10-20 things in a row???

Thus I no longer ask people to join in pinning on my boards. Another seller from her has allowed me to post on several of her boards and try to be sure I'm only pinning what I'm supposed to, not things that don't go with the board at all. I don't know if some people do this to 'hitch their wagon' to mine to take advantage of the views I get on Pinterest or what, but I sure don't understand what some have been doing anyhow.

What I didn't know is that when you give someone permission to post on your board, that board also becomes a part of their Pinterest boards which can be helpful or could also be hurtful depending on what is being pinned. Especially if those that look at the board think it reflects what I'm doing.

I suspect that those plus signs are a way for people to do more effective searches on pinterest, but I don't know for sure. They just appeared one day.

All my "Patterns from Ecrater Sellers" boards are doing great. I probably won't invite anyone else because we have 3 or 4 and they are doing a great job of pinning.

I think our Ecrater boards are doing well too.
