Considering what is going on with Etsy right now, Artisans and artists are really on very shaky grounds as they cannot predict their incomes from Etsy anymore.

I was wondering if any artisans here think it would be great to join in and have a conversation. Also we could help each other and share our opinions, information and experiential knowledge on the subject.

I'm hoping eventually to get to the point I have some creations to sell and I would be doing it through my store here.

Can you tell a little bit about what the shaky grounds are? I sell my pattern designs on Etsy and would also like to sell more of my handmade items one day when I finally retire from my day job. Not necessarily on Etsy though. I never had the success on Etsy as I do here. I don't list much over there because I don't like their relisting fees.

I created a Pinterest board to promote our handmade items. If you would like to pin to my board let me know your name on Pinterest.

I joined Etsy around the same time I joined Ecrater. They were focused on the niche of handcrafts while Ecrater was more of a marketplace for people to sell many different types of items. I was just trying to find an alternative to Ebay. Look at Etsy how much more known they are to the public than Ecrater and they started up around the same time. They pushed their focus on handmade and now they are a known brand name. Yet, I don't enjoy selling there.
Who knew back then how all these places would evolve? Ecrater is a such a nice place to sell on and if we can find places to promote our items together like Pinterest it may be helpful.

My head is literally bubbling with ideas! I never heard anything about Etsy that I liked and I especially didn't like the one time I bought something on there, that the next day or so I was innundated with junk emails from Etsy, not the seller. From her I only got the professional shipping notification I like to get from sellers (which is probably why I send them myself).

I found this article on what is happening at Etsy interesting. The comments from posters at the bottom are also very interesting.

Woke up thinking about this! I realize that handcrafts encompass more than needlecrafts, I would be willing to set up a page of my blog to promote eCRATER handcrafted sellers selling handcrafted items of all types. If anyone would like to be on my page, I'll be happy to post your url. Please Note though: As I will be promoting from my own blog and it thus reflects on me what is promoted, I will check out the submitted URLs and if they are not professional looking, have bad feedback (anything below 90%, and even higher if the feedback is all about never receiving item), Non- handcrafted by the seller unless it is a family member making the items, or a group that makes and sells together, nor handcrafted items you find at thrifts, etc. Please don't try to pass off someone else’s work as your own.

MY definition of Not Professional looking it this:

--NO ALL CAPS FOR EVERY SINGLE ITEM ON THE LISTING PAGES AND YOUR OTHER PAGES!!!

--all sentences run together into one paragraph and if downloaded from eBay still talking about winning auctions here. One big block of text that makes eyeballs spin to look at it,missing punctuation and more spelling errors than I have ever thought of making(this is why God inspired someone to invent spellcheck).

--fuzzy photos, photos of your items using the floor and other inappropriate items as backdrops, flash from camera blocking out the item.

--foreign sellers where English isn't your primary language so that your sentence structure is weird -- PLEASE ask someone for help in improving your writing skills -- no items made in factories trying to be passed off as 'homemade'.

--Items missing necessary measurements and other important information.

--Anything else that takes attention from what you are selling. And yes, I am fussy for those of you who haven't noticed over the years.

Please give me your url for your store AND what your specialty is. Write a 1-2 sentence blurb about you and what you sell to be included.

Anyone else with a blog that wants to do this and not necessarily with my rules Very Happy , the more the merrier. The more we promote, the more all of us sells and the more traffic that will come here. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

That sounds like a great idea Moonwishes. When I get something ready, I will let you know. For me it will be a few months because I am moving and babysitting next month. My schedule is busy for a while.

You lucky dog. Wish I had grandbabies to babysit or any baby to 'sit' although right now I couldn't pick them up. Sad I always have way to much to do - I think it keeps me alive.

who made them successful to start with.

It is becoming a totally uninteresting website and one of a kind crafters are going to have to make other choices.

Do you have any thought where those creators should start a shop if they do not have the savvy to start their own website?

Sure HERE! That is what we are talking about, Trying to get the crafters here together, working together to promote the home crafters here. Usuing all available resources. such as Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram (I don't know anything about it yet, but I now have a cell phone for work purposes so will be checking it out).

Hoping to build a groundswell movement as some venues have before. Then they go public and the shareholders start holding their hands out. I hope that eventually dimitar is worth a bilion or more as long as he keeps us non-public and with the ability to list and post and work together.

And I mean together. None of us on our own can do this alone. But togeters we can. Soem of us already have a Pinterest board displaying handmade creations. I don't have any handmade creations of my own yet to sell but hope to and so want to help boost this too.

Oh yes, needed to add, it is time for all good handmade crafters to come out of lurkdom and identify yourselves unless you don't want to take advantage of all of us working together. I don't know all the crafters and I don't have time to track them down. I am willing to start a page on my blog devoted to those selling anything they have made as in my above post. Plus the pinning of these folks items. We all have to work together. Lastade and I can't do it all. We need help from everyone that would like to benefit from this and if we can get it going good, I think it will really benefit ecrater as a whole and all our stores!

Just was reading this on ecommercebytes and was appalled!

http://www.ecommercebytes.com/C/abblog/blog.pl?/pl/2017/5/1495998477.html

THIS is why we need togang togehter and provide a great place to sell handmade goods without THAT kind of interference for the head honchos of the 'venue'!

I agree with you Moonwishes. This conversation can really benefits all the artists and artisans who have a shop on Ecrater.

The last straw was the vulgar and porn tags on our Etsy listings. A lot of us there are really disgusted. Our brand is being turned into mud and it is no longer good to be associated with the website in my opinion.

I have had my shop on Ecrater for a while but I was doing so well on Etsy that I neglected it. My Ecrater shop used to do ok. Now it is not working anymore so I am trying to improve it.

Also I am looking at other handmade platforms like Artyah.

I couldn't believe what I was reading when I got to that article!

These big venues that have idiots as CEO's are going to find that their sites are imploding on them and suddenly those that assume they will get a great golden parachute will be leaving with hat in hand as the venue doesn't have a single penny to give them when they get canned before the doors are locked.
