I'm another handcrafter import from Etsy; I was unhappy with them for a couple of years with the crazy things they were doing. So with the last fiasco I pulled my last 30 items out on the 16th and I'm so glad I did. I've been on ecrater for quite a while but didn't work on my shop very much, but as soon as I can I want to put more time and effort here.

@Pelican - Just glanced at your store. Those beard hats are cute! I did see also your headband page and wanted to suggest if you don't mind that they each have their own listing by color and accessory. It will give you more pages for the bots to crawl and make it easier that having to do the back and forth with buyers about what color they need. that way if you make three of the same headband you can enter the quantity and not have to worry about having it if someone sees it in a grouping and you are sold out of them.

@Artinsilk
I tried to find your Pinterest name so I could invite you to our Pinterest board:

I took a look at fees for Artyah and also Aftcra for selling handmade goods. Both charge fees when you sell. Artyah is 3.5 % And Aftcra is 7%. Artyah has a listing fee of .10.

I could not see find out if they did any promoting for us like Ecrater does when they send our listings to the search engines for us. Of the two I would probably try Aftcra because I don't like listing fees.
I believe Ecrater is a little better known that either of these two sites so that is a plus to be here. Now if we can get the word out to the public that we sell very nice unique handmade goods. And - to Etsy sellers - You are welcome here.

I've been on the forums on Etsy all evening, very sad over there, down about 40,000 shops and still dropping. But it is what it is, i'll be doing lots of listings here as soon as I get a handle on summer work and really do need a little time off as well. I'm thinking there will be a lot of new sellers joining here in the near future as there's many looking around for new venues.

So kind of you to help other artists. I am still clueless about social media. I started Pinterest because you mentioned it to me several months ago, or maybe it was Moonwishes who mentioned it.

I really would be better of learning Pinterest and Instagram. I understand some artists are selling their artwork through their Instagram. I will be looking into doing that.

I use my artist name: Jossiani for Pinterest.

I will learn Pinterest this coming week-en and start pinning some crafts as well including yours.

I'm a vintage seller here and on etsy. Etsy is a lost cause as far as I can see. I've let my listings expire from about 350 to 150. When I first started there and only had about 50 items listed I did fairly well so I kept adding. After Google began charging sites for G shopping, my sales dropped to about 1 a week and now 1 every other month.

I haven't seen the porn ads yet but read about them. I think Google would be doing all sites and themselves a favor by restricting paid Google porn ads to porn sites. Lots of people shop with their kids looking over their shoulders, particularly if they are shopping for the kids. Porn ads wouldn't fly in my house.

About a year or so ago I approached Dimitri Slavov with the idea of creating a sister site restricted to vintage and handmade, no Chinese factories and no drop shipping. I suggested he charge a one time listing fee and a commission fee, do some press releases and wait for the sellers to pour in. If you think handmade sites are lacking, try finding a place to sell vintage. At the time he sounded interested and said he would look into it but I heard no more about it. Don't know if he didn't think it would be feasible or just hasn't had time to make it happen. Certainly with etsy going down the tube, this would be a good time.

Most of my FB friends have vintage shops on Etsy and we have had discussions on where to try next. The fact is if you don't sell branded items, Google doesn't really want you cluttering up their space.

I tried Jossiani but it did not come up on Pinterest. There is a box at the top to search and there were a few Josiani but not a Jossiani.
There is a lot of your pretty silk scarves that many people have pinned from your store at Artfire, Jossiani - Accessories but I could not find your Pinterest name.
Thanks!

Hi Peg,
I promoted a dishcloth and some pot holders from your store on the https://www.pinterest.com/lastade/handmade-items-for-sale-created-by-ecrater-artisan/ page. Do you have a pinterest id? I can invite you to the board if you do.

Thank you for letting me know Lastade.

I do not know what is wrong because it is my Pinterest name: Jossiani but when I go to the Pinterest page the URL says that I am Jossiani0551. Does that help?

Jossiani I finally found you. If you accept the invitation you can add your listings from Ecrater to this board.

Hope this will help your Ecrater sales!

Another Etsy refugee here.

The self-induced crisis there is incredible. The site lurches from one peculiar chaotic change/test/glitch to the next.

As it is, sales are down precipitously from previous years. I am amazed that anyone -myself included- is able to sell anything at all.

As my listings expire I'm no longer renewing. Unless there is a dramatic turnaround (yeah, that's likely), I'll be done with the site by mid-summer.

Along with thousands of other sellers, I need a new home.

I think one of the things that the refugees could do if you have decided to take refuge here, when you get an Etsy sale, I would include a note Saying that you are moving your handcrafted items to eCRATER as have other Etsy sellers. Invite them to come see your goods but also others. Be sure to give them your direct store url. You don't want to disappear on them.

I truly think if everyone joins hands, figuratively speaking, we can make eCRATER a shopping destination point for handcrafted items along with all the rest of the other sellers and the sooner before Christmas the better! If we can grab people’s attention for the coming Christmas season that would be terrific! Instead of fighting for buyers, working together just might do the trick. This is one of the reasons that it is so important for those that open stores to let them languish or won’t fix poorly done stores is so important to all of us. We want everyone’s experience here on eCRATER be a positive one.
