I was camping these last few days at a campground near Tampa, FL. When we went out to explore the area we found a Drive-In movie theater in Ruskin. They were showing the double feature of A Day in the Neighborhood, the Mr. Rogers movie and Jumanji, The Next Level. My husband and I were so excited to be able to go. Our first date 38 years ago was at a drive in, lol.

What a blast from the past! When I was a kid in Michigan there were 4 Drive-ins within a few miles of our house. My parents would load up the station wagon and off we went with a brown paper sack of popcorn, in our jammies. We saw all the great early Disney movies there. Lady & the Tramp, Son of Flubber, Mary Poppins....Now everyone of those drive-ins are gone.
They lasted until the 80's and I was able take my two sons. Great fun for families! Some had playgrounds for kids to play at while waiting for the movie to start.

At the Ruskin theater a gentleman came on the speakers to welcome everyone and thank us for coming. He said that there are still 7 drive-ins left in Florida but sadly 2 might close this year due to lack of customers. The price was so reasonable, $6 for adults, and if you went to the snack bar the food was also reasonable, $4.50 for a huge bag of popcorn.

Does anyone have a drive-in close to where you live? If so, hope you get a chance to visit and that you enjoy going as much as we did.

The movie A Day in the Neighborhood was a great movie. I would rate it a 4 hanky movie. I always cry at feel good movies so if you are the same be prepared! The Jumanji movie was entertaining also.

We have a drive in not far from where I live. As a kid, we would cram in as many friends as we could fit in the station wagon, because it was one fee per car, not per person. The drive in fell dormant for a long time but was recently revived and I love it. Where else can you be at the movies and eating pierogies? Or ice cream. Or any kind of fried cholesterol available.

As a kid the movie was hard to hear. Today you tune in through the radio. It's a fun experience!

I know that place, from 25 years ago. The manager, at that time, told me they would have Spanish language films booked in for one night a week, then do car-load pricing for all the farm workers that lived in south Hillsborough county. I am surprised it's still up and running.

It was really nice and it will be one of my favorite pre-covid memories. I hope they can keep it going after all this.

I loved drive-ins when I was young. Was sorry to see them go although by the time they closed down I was living in major cities. I would think some enterprising person could buy one, revive it and open up during the virus threat. People would jump at the chance to get out of the house and even bored kids would have a ball.

In Pensacola, FL someone opened a temporary Drive-in for each weekend in May. They rented the Fairgrounds which has a very large parking lot and other flat space that could be converted to parking.

Some of my fondest childhood memories are of the family going to the drive-in at least twice a month. My sister and I would have our blankies and pillows and lay on the warm hood of the car. The concession stand enticing my senses the whole time. LOL They had the best french fries (better than McD's) and corn dogs.

I have to wonder, with the pandemic changing things, if we'll go back to drive-ins and use indoor theaters less. While I do like the sound quality of an indoor theater, I just think it's so much more enjoyable outdoors, under the stars.
