I've noticed that Ecrater is altering our product names if you go to ecrater.com and browse from there. For example, on my page I have a product name of:

The Avengers #45 FN\VF Marvel Comics 1967

Browsing ecrater, the product name is returned as:

the Avengers #45 Fn\vf Marvel Comics 1967

Some more from other stores includes:

A Marriage Made in Heaven... Erma Bombeck
a Marriage Made In Heaven... Erma Bombeck

Aunt Harriet's Underground Railroad in the Sky, Faith Ringgold, G
Aunt Harriet's Underground Railroad In the Sky, Faith Ringgold, G

Infamy-Pearl Harbor & Its Aftermath by John Toland-Paperback
Infamy-pearl Harbor & Its Aftermath By John Toland-paperback

Ecrater says that it applies some change (basically capitalizing every first letter) so people can't use all caps on their listings. However, it appears that some words (an, an, the, etc.) are always made all small caps. And if you want to enter something in small letters, ecrater is going to end up adding caps. Then if you use hyphens or other special characters, all bets are off as to how it might come out, depending on your spacing.

If you don't like the way your names are being displayed by ecrater let them know about it. I get the feeling I'm the only one who has complained about it so far, but I'm not totally sure everyone is aware it is happening.

I think they should at least capitilize every word with no exceptions (a, an, the), as a listing looks pretty unprofessional when the very first letter in the listing has a grammatical error. I wouldn't buy from that person (who in this case would be totally innocent).

I just received an e-mail from eCrater that says they fixed the problem with some words not being capitalized (a, an, the, etc.).

The system only capitalizes the first letter still, but at least our names aren't starting out with typos.

Things like JKF or DVD are still being reduced to Jfk and Dvd, which is probably still going to look a bit odd, but at least its a start.

I have had this problem since day one here - over a year and a half.
Size 3XLT comes out 3xlt on www.ecrater.com BUT if they are in my store and look at the items it will appear as 3XLT

I just have to live with it.

If you guys provide me with a list of strings that should not be lowercased I can do this. So you may use this topic to list similar strings. For example DVD, XXL, etc

For comic book grading, standard abbreviations are:

MT, NM\MT, NM+, NM, NM-, VF\NM, VF+, VF, VF-, FN\VF, FN+, FN, FN-, VG\FN, VG+, VG, VG-, GD\VG, GD+, GD, GD-, FR\GD, FR, PR, DC, IDW

Trading cards use some of the same, but also EX+, EX, EX-

Some others I can think of are:

CD, DVD, VHS, CD\DVD, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW, IBM, PC, HC, SC, LE, NWT, X-Box, SNES, MIP, MOC, MIB

Is it possible to rewrite the checker (technical term!) so that it only applies to listings that actually are in all caps?

Hi Dimitri,

I was just listing some items and need the following to remain all caps:
RPM and LP as well as Roman Numerals (I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX and X.)

Also, what happens if an item has a dash (-) in the name? Are they capitalized correctly (ie. X-Files or X-Men) or are the "F" and "M" lower case?

In my genre there's a very popular manufacturer who's name is SkyBox, spelled and spaced exactly that way. I'd sure hate to look clueless and have all their items written incorrectly in the item title. Any suggestions on how to get around this?

Thanks for helping us out on this,

M

CCS (counted cross stitch) and XS (cross stitch). Both save a lot of space in the title and look kind of silly with just the first letter in caps. Thanks!

Clothing Brands:

DKNY; D&G; AE; EXQUZ

I'm sure there are more, but I can't think of them at the moment.

Thanks!

For some reason it is also changing to a lower case anything after a "-" or "+" (and who knows what else):

Stephen King Hc Lot-dolores Claiborne+four Past+dreamcatcher

...any idea when these will be updated?
