I came across this site, and I'm perplexed!
The URL is http://bentwiredandstoned.com, but it's an ecrater site, or so it appears. Also, I noticed that when you refresh the site, the featured item changes each time.

How can this store have it's own domain name--no matter what page you're on, it says bentwiredandstoned.com, and how does the featured item change like that!? I mean, geez...I want to do this if it's allowed!

HOW?

I know! The only ecrater reference I can find is on the homepage at the bottom left..it says "Powered by eCRATER - a free online store builder", like it does in all of our stores.

Does this person pay for this store or something? Does ecrater offer domain names? I don't get it!

Hmm...well, I just did a search for one of her pieces from the main Ecrater page and it came up. So, it is an ecrater store. I just really wanna know how she has her own domain name without ".ecrater" in it, and how her featured item changes with a refresh of the page.....

After you log in to your page.And you go to catigorys,open up the catigory (say like toys )then you have a featured place to put your picture.check that box and add a picture.The little question mark explains that it will be rotated with other featured items on your home store.
I hope this helps ..as for how the domain name thing I don't know.But I like to show off that I'm with ecrater.Thats how I found them another store had it it in their http. I was glad to get my site for free.

someone posted a place in a earlier posting about where you can go to mask the ecrater URL but it will come to your store. In that posting though I think it was said if you do this people will have a problem with PayPal due to having it masked.

This is just a domain name that is MASKED to an ecrater.com store.
Masking is NOT a good idea - PayPal will not work correctly if you mask the domain name.

The featured item in the right upper corner will always rotate - see my store.

The only difference I can find is that they have masked the ecrater word in their url. Otherwise it is just like all stores. I remember the name from when they posted at opening.

They have redirected their domain to their ecrater store.

Code:
<html>
<head>
   <title></title>
</head>
<body style="margin:0px;padding:0px;overflow:hidden;">
<iframe src="http://bentwiredandstoned.ecrater.com" width="100%" height="100%" style="height:100%;width:100%;" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" frameborder="0">
This domain has redirection enabled so you shouldn't normally see this unless your browser doesn't support iframes. Please click <a href="http://bentwiredandstoned.ecrater.com">http://bentwiredandstoned.ecrater.com</a> to continue.
</iframe>
</body>
</html>

I do something similar with one of my stores, not ecrater with a subdoamin and iframe, store.partsanthings.com

Code:

<html>
<head>

<title>Vintage Auto Parts Store - Parts and Things</title>
<META NAME="Parts and Things Store" CONTENT="Parts and Things Store ">
<meta name="description" content="Parts and Things Online Store specializes in vintage auto parts for cars and trucks for the 20's to the 70's. We have both new and used parts and the inventory changes daily. Most of the parts that we sell are made in the USA for good ole American iron" />
<meta name="keywords" content="parts and things,online,us,secure,shopping,dvd,paypal,,auto,car,chevy,chevrolet,ford,chrysler,mopar,willys,charger,pontiac,tempest,chevelle,mercury,lincoln,nova,street rod,rat rod, desoto,newport,el camino,corvette,impala,mustang">
<META NAME="author" CONTENT="Parts and Things http://store.partsanthings.com" />
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1252">
<META NAME="robots" CONTENT="all">

</head>

<body>

<iframe src="http://partsanthings.ecrater.com" width="100%" height="500%" frameborder="0" SCROLLING="auto" title="Parts and Things Online Store - Featuring Vintage Auto Parts">
<p>Please see my<a href="http://partswanthings.ecrater.com">Store</a>.</p></iframe>
<script src="http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js" type="text/javascript">
</script>
<script type="text/javascript">
_uacct = "UA-2618578-1";
urchinTracker();
</script>
</body>

</html>

To do it this way you would need web site hosting as well as a domain name but you have a lot more options this way. It can also be done with a redirect on the page like this

Code:
<html>
<head>

<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0;URL=http://partsanthings.ecrater.com" />
<meta name="Description" content="Parts and Things Vintage Auto Parts hosted at eCrater " />
<meta name="keywords" content="vintage, , auto parts, " />
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" />
<title>Parts and Things Vintage Auto Parts Store</title>
</head>
<body>
</body>
</html>

When you click on the logo a new picture comes up each time you do it. Is that what you mean?

I also promote my domian http://ljstores.net and it is linked straight back to my ecrater store which allows me a bit from freedom to add some extra pages.
Of course once they "hit" my store there is no link returning them to the main domain but then thats fine.
My domain is just another way to drive traffic to my store...(not that I have had time to do any of this lately) Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

You have to have more then one item marked to be featured on the home page.
Log in
click products
click the pencil icon
mark a few different items as Feature on the home page
then yours will rotate too.
