Hello, I was excited to get an email saying I had my first order. In the email is said to click on a link. When I did, it opened an authorization for payment through Paypal but it looked like it was for ME to pay, which I did not continue with. I checked Paypal, and no payment has been received.

This seems odd. I have sold several things on my ohter sites and have never seen this. A person buys and then pays and I am notified of the transaction which provide me with the details for shipping.

Has this happened to anyone else? What can I do to correct this problem?

Thanks for any help,
Monica

Monica...

From the best I can tell, the message you are getting from ecrater
only indicates that someone has gone through the checkout and
indicated that they would pay with paypal. Does not necessarily
mean they have paid yet.

You will need to check your paypal acount to verify their payment.
I have had 2 that paid an hour or so after they went through the
checkout.

Its actually not such a bad thing.....esp if you need to send them
a modified paypal invoice for combined shipping.

ummm....a an addendum to my previous post...

you may want to send them a Paypal request for
money as a way of verifying to them that you've
received their order & have their widget in stock

Thanks Randy,

That lets me know I'm not expected to send anything until I see the payment in Paypal.

I read that suggestion to send an invoice on another post so I went to try it. I went to the email eCrater sent to get the information and the name was xxx xxx xxx and the email address was xxx@yahoo.com, which did not work.

Is there another place to get the information?

Thanks,
Monica

Hi,

Since they've already indicated Paypal as payment choice, I
would go into your Paypal account & use the "request money"
tab at top. Fill it out with whatever payment / shipping info &
send it to whatever email they gave on the ecrater email. In
the note space reference it to whatever product they bought.

I have a couple customers on another site I sell on that actually
insist on the Paypal invoice for every transaction (or else they
won't pay .. lol). Nice thing about it is that it shows up in their
paypal account so they are not as likely to "miss the email or
forget about it".

Hi, I did try to do that. I went to the order information but the name was xxx xxx xxx and the email address was xxx@yahoo.com (which I tried but it did not work). There is an address and phone number but that is all.

Maybe the order is a hoax. I guess I'll just wait for a payment.

Just so long as I know I'm not doing anything wrong.

Thanks for your time,
Monica

ahhh..ok......... I thought the xxx-xxx in your earlier post
was an attempt to keep your buyers info private. Does sound
like someone playing games - which unfortunately is the
downside to having a checkout.

Thanks for the help. I did see a mistake I made. Paypal was adding additional shipping charges. I have since corrected that but maybe when they saw it, they decided not to follow through.

Oh well, experience is the best teacher. I hope I have fixed everything. Hopefully, I'll get a real order soon.

Fellow eCrater,

Actually, they wouldn't have seen that until after they'd filled in their bogus contact info. It's just something we see here for some reason.

Sometimes it's assumed that they wanted to see what the combined shipping rate would be (which they couldn't know until the end of checkout) but it doesn't make any sense for only item since the shipping is already stated.

But it still happens..

My theory is that these are people that are testing the cart itself. I've seen eCRATER listed on numerous software download sites as an online store builder. It could be that people land on the site and want to see how the whole thing looks from the buyers' perspective. If you go to the OSCommerce or Zen Cart sites, they have links to live stores using their shopping cart software. I know on one of the sites (can't remember which one), when you click on one of these links, a pop-up box comes up warning you that these are real stores, so do not place test orders. That suggests to me that people really are that dumb because no one would have felt they needed to warn them not to do it unless it was happening quite a bit.

No worries Monica; I am confident that you have many orders in your future. I love, love, love your bags and may stop by for some Xmas shopping myself.

Thanks for your reply. I appreciate you taking the time to share your experiences.

Also, thank you for the kind words about my purses, it is very encouraging. I still have more to list and I hope you get a chance to stop by. You have some great items in your store, very unique and eye catching. It must keep you very busy.

Have a great day,
Monica

Hey Monica!

You are very welcome! I am a sucker for great accessories and you have a great niche! I'm sure I'll be checking back occassionally.

I opened my store here about a month ago and had already gone through most of my summer stock. I have gotten lazy after the July sales lull. Now I'm starting to sell out of my current items! Time to get off my lazy bottom and start listing my fall inventory. Smile
