I have been reading through all the links on how to promote your store, both in eCrater admin page and from suggestions from Big Tall Man. Does any of the Forum believe it worth while paying Yahoo directory $299 per year to list your URL.
Have any Forum members managed to do this for free with other Search Engines and achieved the same results - getting noticed? |

As a web directory owner myself, I just couldn't justify the $299 to get listing in Yahoo's directory. Here's why. You may get listed but you could be buried deep within a category. The fee is no guarantee your site will be accepted. If it isn't your are out $299 since they don't offer a refund. Traditionally Yahoo Directory doesn't accept sites like ecrater, ebay etc. . IMO, it's just to much money for any possible return.
Now I do pay to get listed in web directories but I would take that amount and spread it around to lots of other directories. Another thing to consider is submitting your site to free web directories. I'm sure there are hundreds that will accept your store. |

I just want to add that when we are talking about Yahoo Directory we are not talking about Yahoo the search engine. These are two entirely different things. Submitting your site to Yahoo (search engine) is free. Submitting to their directory is what costs.
Yahoo Directory: http://dir.yahoo.com/
Yahoo: http://www.yahoo.com/ http://search.yahoo.com/ |

Good point -- but as you said $299 is best spent in different ways. |

I don't pay either, and BT says it well - it's all in the descriptions and the promoting - Dawn |
