I did a quick search on the topic but couldn't find any answers.
Does naming your image with a relevant title before uploading it help with google image search?
Any ideas anyone?

Interesting question. I'd like to hear the answer to that also. It would be nice to have some pics show up on google images. |

Alt tags - that's how you name an image do help with search engines
because search engines can not see images but they can read
HOWEVER, there are NO alt tags on this site.
If you have repeated the keywords within your description several times - alt tags are not needed.
I recommend that every listing you repeat the title as the first line of your description for 2 reasons
#1 - it put the title with the rest of the information
#2 - it repeats all your keywords - assuming your title is keyword packed in the first place - which it should be. |

As usual BigTall you are a wealth of information and it is much appreciated. That saves me some time when transferring all my pictures to my puter and then back up to ecrater. I really appreciate it. You saved me a ton of typing. |

Plus (I think) ecrater renames the photo anyway? |

I just checked a few of the image names in my store and ecrater does rename them. That's too bad because I have heard that image searches use image names as well as alt tags and surrounding text to index them. |

OH OH OH
You are referring to the name which you save your pic as -- not naming it for the purpose of a search engine (alt tags)
NAH, you can call it anything you want be as started once you upload it it gets renamed anyways.
And to answer the real question (now that I understand what you mean)
NO what every image name you give it has no effect on search engines at all. |

Everything I have read - and I read ALOT, lol
says image searches (which are basically used for not much more then copying the image) use alt tags and text not the image name.
besides coming up in an image search is not really a good thing. How many shoppers go and do an image search? I doubt many do. Sellers do to see what images they can copy and use as their own. So personally I am delighted not to have my images show up in an image search. |

I think you're underestimating how much traffic Google images gets. I go there all the time, usually looking for humorous pictures for chat rooms etc. but I often get sidetracked and click on an image to see it on the original page. Since I have a tee shirt for almost any occasion it would be nice to be there. Thanks for the tips. |

but it really don't matter because images are renamed here - as they are on alot of sites. |
