I don't believe you can add insurance as a separate charge, you have to include it in your shipping. Unless you state in terms that if they want insurance to wait for a separate invoice that will include insurance charges.
That would turn me off as a buyer. Why not just insure all shipments, through http://u-pic.com/? Your customers will love it, not expensive through u-pic, and filing a claim with them, if needed, is much easier than through the shipping carriers. |

Insurance is technically the sellers responsibility. I include it with all of my e-Crater shipments. |

Most of the items I sell are higher priced, and I always Insure my items.
I include it in the Shipping Price.
I was at the post office today, and insured a package for $199. USPS charged me $3.35 just for the Insurance. Also, I use either Delivery Confirmation of Signature Confirmation on all my items.
By the time I add up my Shipping Materials, Insurance, Confirmation, and Weight of the package, it can become quite pricey, and that's just for the US.
USPS has a Global Guaranteed Shipping that cost apx $38. Shipping has gotten pretty expensive nowdays, and it's going up again May 1st.

My things are more lightweight, so I can be more flexible. I add the at-the-counter cost of shipping, plus the less expensive u-pic insurance, to the stated cost, and offer free shipping. They love it! |

AntiquesAndCollectibles - sounds to me like you need your own Marine Policy (that's what it's called to covering items in motion) or at least use DSI Insurance or U-Pic Insurance.
Check with your insurance agent you might be able to add a Marine policy to your business insurance for a very low cost - like least then $50 a year. ASK, all they can do is say no! |
