During October, I finally crossed one item off my bucket list … I passed the exam, and was granted an amateur radio license (technician class) by the FCC. This has been a desire for a very long time. I am currently searching for appropriate equipment to get 'on the air'.

Are there any other ham's that use eCrater ?

For now, I was assigned, and will be known by, KN4ZCD, but I have filed a form 605 for a vanity call sign. More as that develops.

Yesterday morning, the FCC granted me a vanity call sign, and canceled the sequential one they assigned in October. My new call sign in WA4VQW, which was the call sign of my high school amateur radio club back in the day. It has likely been dormant for ~40 years, since the passing of the trustee of that license, who was also the electronics instructor at the high school. This is a (minor) milestone, in that I wanted to resurrect it. I am already in email contact with one other person whom was also part of that same club, and graduated the same year that I did.

Last Monday evening, someone in the local ham radio group 'gifted' me a used VHF/UHF radio. To use it, I needed an antenna, some cable, plus various bits involving the power cable. Santa (aka the USPS mail carrier) delivered a package to me yesterday. After some soldering, etc, I had everything up and running for a half hour or so. The support structure for the antenna was insufficient to leave it up all the time, so I broke it down and stored it for the time being.
