From USPS ...
8-25-21
Australia Post advises that the Sydney office of exchange will be closed for up to 48 hours for reasons relating to COVID-19. This will have a direct impact on processing, delivery and handover of all inbound mail items received in Sydney during this period. Australia Post’s offices of exchange in Brisbane and Melbourne continue to process mail. |

Normally it takes 2 weeks to send a package to Australia from my home. I had a buyer last week asking about her package. It was about 3 weeks after I mailed it at that point. Now I know why it was arriving late.
Thank you for keeping us informed. |

I had read the article on ecommercebytes, but I was unable to find any information on the USPS website other than the post cosmicray provided. A quick check this morning of major search engines showed more information from most of the major postage providers. The best info I found was on Stamps.com blog:
Quote: | Service Alert! USPS Suspends First Class Package International Service to Australia
Effective September 3, 2021, the U.S. Postal Service has TEMPORARILY suspended First Class Package International Service delivery to Australia due to carrier issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Priority Mail International and Priority Mail Express International delivery are not being impacted and mailpieces will continue to be delivered.
If your First Class Package International Service parcel is already in transit, the international carriers will endorse the items as “Mail Service Suspended — Return to Sender” and then place the package in the mail stream for return. The USPS will provide a full refund of the shipping costs paid when service to the country of destination is suspended. | https://blog.stamps.com/2021/09/02/usps-service-suspension-to-australia/ |

Thanks, I did not realize the International Mail Service Suspensions statement was actually a linked button. I had just looked at the AU link. |

Haven't had a delivery to AU in a while but thanks for posting. Wasn't aware suspended delivery would trigger a return to sender. Silly me, expecting them to hold on to things like there's a big warehouse "cloud" they can hold things indefinitely. *facepalm* |

For those folks using USPS Calculated shipping, the USPS API is not returning the suspended services, so the customer will not see the estimated shipping options and they will not be available at checkout.
USPS did an update on Nov. 18th, but USPS is still not shipping Priority Mail International or First-Class Package International Service to Australia or New Zealand. There are other services not available, but I thought those would be the ones most affecting other sellers. For more information check out the update: https://about.usps.com/newsroom/service-alerts/international/welcome.htm and click on "View the Suspensions". |

Define long, like when was it originally shipped ?
It may well have been in the AUS postal system before the pause. |

About 3 months or so. I believe the pause was in effect at that time? Maybe just got lucky. |

When I shipped my kids presents in mid-December the postal clerk said there is still a holdup in that area of the world, but that was a few weeks ago. |
